Finally in Print after Ten Years!
Just a little update! A quick recap on what I’ve been doing,how my writing is going, and other little tidbits I hope you find interesting.

What I’ve Been Up To
|
Mostly, I’ve stayed at home this past month, with the exception of a short trip to Ohio. As usual, we saw family and many friends, and also went with two of said friends to a concert: Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie. I never really got into Manson, though I like his music, but I’ve been a fan of Rob Zombie since the nineties. The concert did not disappoint, although the videos and set design were so busy and active it was hard to see the performers!

Finally, Time’s Dilemma is available in print!
|
This story came out in ebook in 2016, right before life got crazy and I went on hiatus as a fiction writer. Now that I’m writing again, Mythical Press is all-in with me, and has released Time’s Dilemma as a pretty new print book, the first to feature the new cover!

What I’m Working On
Spending more time at home has benefited my writing, and last week, I finally finished Saturn Society, Book 6!
|
It came in reeeeeeeaally long, even longer than Time’s Guardian, so after discussing with my publisher, we decided that it would make sense to split out a subplot that doesn’t have a lot of direct bearing on the main plot, and make it a separate book. It’s about 18,000 words, which makes it a short novella. It features Rex and Gretchen, who were introduced in “Time’s Tempest,” and appear in Time’s Guardian and the sixth novel as well. It will be released as an Interlude story after Time’s Guardian, in mid-2027.

I’m also starting to write something completely new, which is a little scary! I realized when I finished Book 6 that I’ve been writing in the Saturn Society world since early 2001, minus my 10-year hiatus. So as much as I love the Saturn Society, it’s time for something different, probably paranormal romance.

Real or Fictitious?
One of the fun things about writing stories set in a real place is using actual businesses, streets, historical or famous people, buildings, events, and more. But sometimes, it’s better to make something up, for many reasons. So I’m going to toss you one of these details, and if you like, email me and let me know if it’s real or fake. Or just answer the question for yourself. I’ll post the answer next month in this newsletter.

Last month’s question was the waterslide in Put-In-Bay, Ohio, that was featured in “Time’s Tempest.” What’s even more fun, is it was absolutely real! It hasn’t existed for a long time, but the caption on this photo references “the Monument,” which would be Perry's Victory & International Peace Memorial, built in 1913-1915.

For this month, we’ll go to northeast Tennessee, where parts of Time’s Fugitive take place, as well as the entirety of Time’s Dilemma and Time’s Best Friend. Parts of Book 6 are set in this area as well.

The first scene I’m thinking of is from Time’s Fugitive, where Tony drives past a roadside sign he found rather creepy:

“Dusk was falling by the time Tony’s future self led him off the highway at an exit in the middle of nowhere just south of the Kentucky-Tennessee state line. The compulsion led him down state routes, then county roads that became less well maintained the farther he traveled, until they were more crumbled gravel than pavement. Where the roads end and the trails begin, as his grandpa used to say. When he passed a giant, white, concrete cross that said GET RIGHT WITH GOD in big, black letters, it only heightened his anxiety.”

Later in the book, he and Violet pass another cross that says, "PREPARE TO MEET GOD." Were the giant, white crossed real, or fake? Let me know (if you like), and I’ll share the answer in October.
