New Release! And a Safari in Ohio???
It’s time for an update! Here’s where I share what I’ve been doing, what’s coming up with my writing, and other dribs and drabs I hope you find interesting.

What I’ve Been Up To
The title should clue you in to one thing! Yes, my husband and I just got home from a trip to Ohio. That isn’t unusual in itself; we go at least a couple times a year to see friends and family. But this was an extended trip, because we had a wedding to attend (his cousin’s) and concert tickets (Five Finger Death Punch–yes, we are headbangers LOL), and they were a week apart. And our daughter’s birthday was in that week, so it made sense to see some other folks and do some things we ordinarily don’t.

One of those things was going to a place I’ve wanted to see for years, but have never gotten around to: The Wilds. It’s a wild animal sanctuary in eastern Ohio (near Zanesville) where the animals roam free in large pastures. Most are endangered species, and The Wilds runs breeding programs for many, with significant success in increasing their numbers. Some have even been reintroduced to the wild. And you can go there and take a safari ride while learning all about them. We got to pet camels and rhinos, and fed a giraffe–really cool!

What’s Happening Now/Next
First, a drumroll, please! I’m celebrating my first release in ten years: the standalone version of the short story “Time’s Tempest.” This was originally published in an anthology with stories from several other authors called Love’s a Beach, but it was always my intention to release it as a separate book.
|
A Hundred-year Storm in more ways than one…

Headstrong handyman and new Saturn Society initiate Rex Beeber takes his first trip back in time to a Lake Erie resort in 1916, in search of his own past. Instead, he winds up in the storm of the century, with a woman he doesn’t remember meeting—or falling in love with—who needs his help eluding a madman from the future, who knows Rex better than Rex knows himself.

“Time’s Tempest” is a Saturn Society Interlude, a short story that takes place during the course of Time’s Guardian, Saturn Society Book Five (forthcoming). While it may enhance the reader experience of both novel and story, it is not necessary to have read one to understand and enjoy the other.

To fix the timeline, Tony must first find the killer, not only in place, but time. Only by working together across the boundary between life and death can he and Violet bring the killer to justice, correct the past, and rediscover their love.

Yet another release coming soon
Mythical Press is working on a print release of Time’s Dilemma, Saturn Society Book 3. I actually wrote this book after Time’s Best Friend was published, but Mythical decided it was a more logical Book 3, and made Time’s Best Friend Book 4. But it was right after the ebook release of Dilemma that my writing ground to a near-halt, so Mythical never released it in print. So that will soon change, and the print version will have the same shiny, new cover as the current ebook. They will eventually update the other print books with the new covers as well.

What I’m Working On
Work continues on Saturn Society book 6, which (as far as I know) will conclude the series. Being the sixth in a long, complex series, there are a looooooooot of loose ends to tie up, but I think I’ve hit most of them, and have plans for the others.

Real or Fictitious?
One of the fun things about writing stories set in a real place is using actual businesses, streets, historical or famous people, buildings, events, and more. But sometimes, it’s better to make something up, for many reasons. So each month, I'll toss you one of these details, and if you like, email me and let me know if it’s real or fake. Or just answer the question for yourself. I’ll post the answer next month in this newsletter.

Last month’s question was Seventh Street in Dayton, Ohio. A lot of things happened there in Time’s Enemy, and it’s totally fake! That's right, the numbered streets in Dayton only go up to Sixth. A lot of the things that happened on Seventh Street were, hmmm, not good. So I figured best to make it somewhere no one would try to find.

This month, we’ll go to Put-In-Bay, Ohio, where my new release, “Time’s Tempest” takes place. This story takes place in 1916, and features a huge waterslide. Rex imagined it as part of the scene when he made his jump into the past:

“[He] imagined the slightly-fishy smell of the lake, pretended there was a giant waterslide, built on a rickety-looking wooden roller coaster frame, like he’d seen in a photo in his great-grandma’s stuff. He’d pictured the pier leading out to it, felt the grass in the park beneath his bare feet warmed by the sun, heard the laughter of kids playing, their shouts as they shot down the slide.”
